UCC lose their way (and the match) in last 20 minutes

CBSL Shield Group 1: Cash's Exports v UCC United
Garryduff, Sunday 20 September 2009

Cash's Exports 4
UCC United 1 (Pierce)

UCC's prospects of advancing to the knockout stages of the CBSL Shield suffered a blow on Sunday when they fell to a 4-1 defeat away to Cash's Exports at Garryduff. For 70 minutes everything appeared to be going well for the college outfit as they held onto a one goal lead. The goal came in the 25th. minute when Will Pierce turned sharply onto a throw by David Lejon and struck a great shot to the corner of the net from a tight angle. Thereafter, Cash's enjoyed plenty of possession but found Dave Greoger and Dave Coleman impossible to breach. The hosts however drew level with twenty minutes remaining when UCC failed to deal properly with a corner kick. The game then changed dramatically when the referee awarded Cash's a contentious penalty which was dispatched to the net. UCC bravely chased the game in the closing minutes but were caught twice on the break.
Greoger, Lejon, Coleman, Moore, Coffey, Martin, Power (c), Darby, Kinsley (Hernando), Walmsley, Pierce
