It was a nightmare second half for UCC United who went down 4-0 to Janssen at the Farm last Sunday morning. The College team had shaded the first half and were disappointed to go in at the break level. While both sides had chances, UCC United had the more clear cut opportunities but failed to convert. They were to rue these misses in the second half when a succession of individual errors and a lack of shape gave Janssen the upper hand. UCC United conceded two goals from corners and that was enough to put Janssen in the driving seat and once they got themselves ahead they never looked like letting the game slip. UCC United came close in the second half to getting back into the game when Deckie Jordan's 25-yard free kick came back off the crossbar with the goalkeeper beaten.
UCC United failed to convert opportunities later in the game, while Janssen were nowhere near as wasteful. It was a very disappointing result for UCC United who failed to match Janssen's physical and committed approach to the game. While the result does not reflect the balance of the game, Janssen were well worth their win and unless UCC United can start to win the individual physical battles in each game they are in for a very tough season.
