ERIC STRIKES ON THE DOUBLE

CBSL Division 1
UCC United v Iron Mountain
Sunday 28 March 2010 at The Farm

UCC United 2 (Moore 2)
Iron Mountain 1

An exciting game on Sunday morning at the Farm brought three hard-earned points for UCC United. The hosts enjoyed a perfect start when netting after five minutes. Gavin Kinsley's near-post corner was kept alive by Ronan O'Dubhghaill and, following a goalmouth scramble, Eric Moore poked home. Aidan Power came close to extending the lead five minutes later; his well-struck free-kick was touched on to the post by the Iron Mountain goalkeeper. UCC continued to make most of the running and Will Pierce's tremendous thirty-yard dipping volley brought a great save from the opposing 'keeper. He was left helpless however on thirty minutes when Eric Moore's left-footer from distance curled into the net. Iron Mountain applied some pressure before the half-time interval but were unable to find a way past Dave Coleman and his defence.
The second half was even with both teams carving out a series of half chances. The game seemed destined to end on a 2-0 scoreline but the visitors gave themselves a lifeline with two minutes remaining when a swerving shot from the edge of the area found the net. In truth it was too late for Iron Mountain to claim an equaliser and UCC help out for the win.
