UCC United go out of Munster Junior Cup at first hurdle

Premier Division side Cork Airport did just enough to overcome a fighting display from UCC United in the Munster Junior Cup at the Farm this afternoon.

Chances were at a premium for both sides on a very hot afternoon. UCC United's Dave O'Sullivan had the first shot on target after 10 minutes which the Airport was opened up at the edge of the box but the keeper was equal to the shot. Airport had the better of things for the rest of the half but UCC United belied the fact that they were in the lower division and competed well.

The breakthrough for Airport came 5 minutes after the break. A missed tackle in midfield gave the Airport attacking midfielder room and when he wasn't closed down a tremendous shot from 25 yards sailed over the head of Dave Groeger in the United goal.

The two sides cancelled each other out for the rest of the game. The heat took it's toll on both sides and it was beyond United to find the goal they needed to stay in the Cup.

Best for the College side were Dave Groeger in goal, Liam Weeks at the back and Aodh Quinlivan in the middle of the park.

UCC United: Groeger; Moore, Weeks, O'Brien (Jordan), Darby; Power, Quinlivan, Walmsley, Burke (Kinsley); O'Sullivan, Pierce (Nwokonye).
