It was a difficult first season for UCC United. Since the last post on this blog the following results saw the season to a close:
UCC United 0 Kilcully Decking 2
UCC United 2 RCI 0
Silversprings 2 UCC United 0
UCC United 2 Cashs Export 4
The College side also went out of the First Division Cup at the quarter finals stage to eventual winners Freescale. The game ended 1-1 but UCC lost 8-7 on penalties.
The season presented a steep learning curve for the club. An inability to field a consistent team week in week out proved a big issue but there is no doubt that, as the season progressed, the team improved. The losing habit was to dog the side but there is a lot of optimism for the coming season.
This year was really about getting the club established and seeing the season through. The goals for next season will be set higher. The target has to be challenging for promotion and reaching a Turners Cross final.
The squad from last season should be bolstered by new additions and if United can get off to a good start can establish themselves as a mainstay in this league.
The new season starts in August but pre-season training and friendlies will begin in early July.
