IMPROVED PERFORMANCE

CBSL Division 1
Kilcully Decking v UCC United
St. Mary's, Sunday 14 March 2010

Kilcully Decking 3
UCC United 1 (Power)

At half-time in this game everything looked good for UCC United. An exemplary first half performance had yielded a goal from a free-kick by Aidan Power and the team as a whole was looking compact and solid. Aside from the goal, UCC had other opportunities to score. Power headed over after Ronan O'Dubhghaill had nodded on Brendan Keohane's corner and John Devaney hit the side netting after a flowing move involving Gavin Kinsley.
Unfortunately two events at half-time worked against UCC. They lost Ronan O'Dubhghaill and Kilcully introduced Colin Patrick O'Brien, the former Cork City player. Boosted by O'Brien's play, Kilcully took the game to UCC from the start of the second period and equalised with a great shot from distance after five minutes. The hosts were ahead withing ten minutes when a near post corner squirmed over the line.
College refused to crumble and gradually worked their way back into the game, creating a couple of chances along the way. The best fell to Eric Moore on 80 minutes but his close range strike went the wrong side of the post. O'Brien had the final say when he headed home a late corner kick for Kilcully.
Despite failing to pick up points, UCC emerged from the game with credit and the performance level was high.
Groeger, Brett (Coffey), Quinlivan, O'Dughghaill (Moore), Hegarty, Darby, Burke (Pierce), Devaney, Keohane, Kinsley, Power (c)
