SECOND HALF COLLAPSE

CBSL Division 1
UCC United v Cork County Council at the Farm
18 October 2009, 2:30pm kick-off

UCC United 1 (Kinsley)
Cork County Council 4

UCC United's opening league match of the 2009/2010 campaign ended in disappointment and a comprehensive defeat at the hands of Cork County Council. Yet, the first half went well for the college outfit who dominated proceedings, comfortably contained their opponents and took the lead. The hero of the opening period was Gavin Kinsley. On 30 minutes he covered brilliantly to deny the Council a clear goalscoring opportunity and, five minutes later, he struck at the other end. Following a great break and pass from Eric Moore, Kinsley controlled the ball, beat his man and hit a sweet shot to the back of the net from the left edge of the area.
The second half however was one to forget for UCC. Undoubtedly Cork County Council raised their game but the home team lost focus and confidence at crucial times. In all, four goals were conceded and each one was the result of poor defensive play. To their credit, UCC kept plugging away and created a number of half-chances themselves. While UCC are left to rue a disappointing opening day defeat, Cork County Council climb to the top of the table with a maximum 9 points from 3 games played. Yesterday's victory also guaranteed them the University Shield. Congratulations to all involved.
Groeger, Moore, Quinlivan, Hegarty (Brett), Weeks, Burke (O'Brien), Darby, Power (c), Kinsley (Guillossou), Walmsley, Alvarez
